Two of Nuriootpa’s proudest supporters, Chris Linden, CEO of the Vine Inn Barossa Community Hotel and Kathryn Schilling, Nuriootpa Futures Association are excited to hear news of their town’s growth, saying it is “well deserved”.
Nuriootpa – A Great Place To Visit
At a time when many regional areas are in decline, Nuriootpa has been announced the fourth fastest growing area in the state in 2015-16.
This was revealed in the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) recently released data on Regional Population Growth 2015-16. Nuriootpa was the only place outside of Greater Adelaide to rank in the Top 10 for Fastest Growth with a three per cent increase in the population.
The Barossa Council area is estimated to have increased by 1.2 per cent (275 people). As the ABS website states, “Of the SA2s outside of Greater Adelaide, those with the largest growth were Murray Bridge and Nuriootpa (both 200), Victor Harbor and Light (both 180). The SA2s with the fastest growth were Nuriootpa (3.0%) and Light (2.0%), both in the state’s Barossa region.”
Mr Stephan Knoll, Member for Schubert, said, “This is a vote of confidence in our region, and the increase in population is a by-product of a thriving economy. At a time when many region’s population numbers are in decline, the Barossa continues to be a place many aspire to live in. Who can blame them when we have world famous vines, wineries, restaurants and views at our door step.”
“The Barossa has a wonderful sense of community and there is always something to do with many excellent events on – like the upcoming Barossa Vintage Festival in a week’s time which encapsulates the Barossa. We have preserved the Barossa as a beautiful place people want to live in and over time this will create pressures on land availability, which is an issue we need to monitor.”
